The birth of DIY Kits
We’ve become used to this pandemic by now.
The days have become monotonous again with work filling most of our time and even our nights. Anxiety, stress and a lot more are back to fill our minds witnessing everything that’s going within our houses and around the world. Also, our sleep cycles have gone for a toss, yet the world still goes by without a twitch.
We need some time off. We need some time alone. We are looking for ways to distract ourselves, gulping down Netflix like a glass of water. Our minds are screaming for a break though we are still living in one. Where do we go? Where do we hide from work? Is there no escape from all this even just for a moment where we hide behind an invisible cloak?
Relax, breathe.
I recommend one apart from the many therapeutic acts available, like reconnecting with Nature, drawing, talking to a friend; Cooking.
We have all tried to cook in these 6 months. Tried to make a meal, burnt our hands, burnt vessels, and made a mess out of our kitchen. After all, that drama, when the chili powder has settled down, have you felt happy tasting the first bite of what you made? Though it might have turned entirely opposite to whatever you wanted, you would have felt that peace within you, after that first bite. That sense of satisfaction is what the whole world is after and I can assure you, that it can be found even in the simplest of meals that you cook.
Cooking is a meditative process. It’s not the one that you do while bathing, having coffee, packing a lunch for yourself or your kids while you head out to work. It’s about spending time with yourself and whatever that’s in front of you. It’s such an immersive process that it involves all our senses; smell, touch, sound, sight and taste and all the five elements as Nature itself.
These days cooking is pushed as a templatized and a monotonous task merged into one of our to-do lists. Technology and restaurants did catch-up to our speed of super-fast life, catering to our needs with variety in cuisines, a great ambiance, pampering us on weekends with roof-top views. We enjoyed all these while missing out on the very essence of eating, the joy of cooking.
This pandemic has made restaurants re-think their experience and DIY kits were born. Introducing the kits have empowered people with zero knowledge in cooking to make something delicious and call it their own. It’s a boon for friends and couples staying together when they can share the joy of cooking and not concentrate much on the preparation for it. Readily available ingredients in quality and quantity, cooking instructions all this makes the cooking experience even more enjoyable. Soon enough, ordering a complete meal will become a thing of the past.
Every day demands a lot from us and we push beyond our limits. Our breaks and work have lost their boundaries and filled our hearts with chaos. While we try out every distraction to find that ever evading peace, it reaches out to us while we watch the flame dance, listen to the sound of vegetables making love, the aroma of all the spices engulfing us in every bite of a meal, we cook and can proudly call it our own.
